Breathe New Life into Your Hardwood Floors with True Clean's Screen & Recoat Service
If your hardwood floors have light surface blemishes and scratches, our screen and recoat service may be the best option for floors; especially if your floors have lost their sheen and are no longer appealing like they once were. Our screen and recoat process is for light, surface-level scratches on your hardwood floors where the layer of is wearing down. Our screen and recoat service does not, however, remove scratches that have gone deep down into the wood.
We call this our sandless refinishing service where floor sanding is not necessary. The recoating process provides 2 additional protective layers using a commercial-grade polyurethane. This can last anywhere from 3 to 5 years depending on lifestyle and floor traffic. The extra wear layers also makes the floor look better with a heavenly sheen. Our refinishers come in satin, semi-gloss and high gloss. If you are unsure how deep the scratches on your floors are, give us a call. We would be happy to come out and assess your floors and provide you with options for making your floors look beautiful again.
The Perfect Solution for Worn, But Not Ruined Floors
Is a full sanding project more than your budget or timeline allows for? Screen and recoat might be the perfect answer! This process gently removes the top layer of your existing finish, along with minor scratches and imperfections. Then, a fresh coat of protective finish is applied, restoring the shine and beauty of your floors.
Here’s why True Clean is your best choice for screen and recoat:
- Fast & Efficient: Get the job done in just one day, minimizing disruption to your home.
- Cost-Effective: Enjoy a beautiful floor refresh at half the price of full sanding.
- Experienced & Trusted: Our 24 years of experience ensure top-notch results you can rely on.
What Does It Mean to Screen and Recoat Hardwood Floors?
Screen and recoat is one of the best-kept secrets in hardwood floor maintenance. This technique can save you both time and money, and it’s often the solution you need to restore your floors’ appearance without the expense of a full sanding.
What is Screen and Recoat?
Screening and recoating is a process used to revitalize hardwood floors that have lost their sheen and developed light surface scratches. Here’s a breakdown of the process:
- Screening: This involves removing the top layer of polyurethane to address dullness and minor scratches. Unlike sanding, which removes a significant layer
of wood, screening only affects the surface layer of the finish. - Recoating: After screening, we apply a fresh coat of polyurethane. This new layer enhances protection and brings back the floor’s luster, extending the life of your finish.
Screen and Recoat vs. Hardwood Floor Sanding
- Cost-Effective: Screen and recoat is generally cheaper than sanding. It’s ideal for floors with minor surface issues and doesn’t require the intensive process of sanding.
- Sanding: This is more appropriate for deeper scratches and significant wear. It involves removing more material and is typically more costly and disruptive.
Regular Maintenance is Key
Screen and recoat should be part of your regular maintenance routine if your floors are finished with polyurethane. Polyurethane doesn’t last forever, and without maintenance, your floors can become exposed to damage. It’s recommended to screen and recoat every 5-8 years to avoid the need for more drastic measures like sanding.
Screen and Recoat Basics
- Remove Old Coating: We use a screen instead of sandpaper to abrade the old polyurethane. This process clears away the old finish without damaging the wood.
- Clean: After screening, we thoroughly clean the floor to remove any residue.
- Apply New Coats: We then apply 2 new coats of polyurethane to provide a smooth, protective finish.
